Joan Blaney CBE – Business and Social Entrepreneur
A former nurse at the Queen Elizabeth Medical Centre and Lecturer at Fircroft Adult College, Joan Blaney is now Director of Adanna International (UK) Ltd, a group of companies involved in management and promotions and international trading and development in Africa, the Middle East and Jamaica.
Demonstrating her commitment to support for small businesses, Joan is Co-founder and Chairman of the West Midlands Trading Alliance (WMTA), which was established to help small businesses realise their potential for delivering high quality goods and services and be profitable in the process.
Having spent the last eighteen years in the Voluntary Sector, as National Director with the Scarman Trust, Director of the Community Enterprise & Trading Academy, (CETA) founder of a number of non profit organisations in the UK and abroad, Joan maintains her interest in social and economic development in local neighbourhoods through the South Aston Community Association (SACA) where she now works as a Freelance Consultant.
Having won a number of local community and business awards, including the European Black Women’s Federation Award for Excellence, Joan received the CBE, one of the UK’s highest honours, from Her Majesty the Queen in July 2002.
Joan also featured in the Birmingham “Post Power 50” List which recognised the 50 most influential people in the West Midlands region.
